Early on Friday, September 23, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to a severe motorcycle versus vehicle accident. Initial responders discovered a 24-year-old suffering from life-threatening injuries, but they did not find the driver of the vehicle that reportedly struck the biker.
Police say the incident occurred near Flamingo and Sandhill. A 2017 Honda CR-V and a 2018 Kawasaki Motorcycle rider were both traveling down a three-lane road. Authorities believe the Honda was in the rightmost travel lane, while the motorcycle rider was in the leftmost lane. The Honda reportedly attempted a lane change when it collided with the motorcyclist.
Investigators believe the front of the motorcycle hit the left rear of the Honda, and the rider was thrown from the bike. Upon arriving at the accident scene, the motorcyclist was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
It was later discovered that the Honda, which was abandoned at the crash site, was stolen. It remains unclear if the culprit decided to flee the scene due to this fact.
Hit and Run Motorcycle Injuries in Las Vegas
Motorcycle accidents often lead to substantial injuries due to the lack of protection between the motorcycle rider and the road. While motorcycle riders should always wear a helmet and protective clothing, that’s not enough to protect them if they get ejected from their bikes, like in the accident above. The most common types of injuries sustained after motorcycle accidents include:
- Road rash
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Broken bones
- Fractures, sprains, and strains
- Cuts, scrapes, and bruises
- Spine injuries
- Neck injuries including whiplash
- Internal bleeding
What’s more, hit and run accidents usually result in more serious injuries. One reason for this is because the injured victim doesn’t receive the help they need right away. Since the perpetrator flees the scene and the injured motorcyclist might not be able to call for help, they have to rely on the hope that a passerby will notice the situation and reach out to emergency services. As you can imagine, this can cause a situation to become life-threatening very fast.
Have You Recently Been Injured in an Accident?
Have you recently been injured after a hit and run motorcycle accident? Even if the perpetrator doesn’t get convicted of a crime, you still have legal recourse. Consider seeking out a personal injury lawsuit to recover the losses you’ve endured. The standard of proof required to secure a legal victory is much lower in civil court than it is in criminal court. With that in mind, don’t feel discouraged if the other driver didn’t get convicted of the hit and run crime.
A personal injury lawsuit can help you recover from losses in the form of medical bills, property damage, lost wages, emotional distress, and more.
