Surprising exactly no one, Illinois is looking into a recent Reddit post confessing to cheating on the bar exam.
The post, purportedly by a UIC John Marshall graduate who previously failed twice and passed this time by abusing accommodations for ADHD, gives away a lot of identifiable information and the Board of Admissions is on the case!
“The Illinois Board of Admissions to the Bar is aware of this post and appropriate steps are being taken,” Nancy Vincent, director of administration for Illinois Board of Admissions to the Bar, said in an email to Law.com Thursday.
“The Board takes very seriously its responsibility to the Illinois Supreme Court, to the legal community, to its applicants, and to the public,” Vincent said. “While it is not ‘mandatory’ to investigate every allegation, when matters that may affect the integrity of the exam or the character of an applicant are brought to our attention, the Board will take all appropriate steps.”
We remain very skeptical that burnerman1818 cheated on the exam or, for that matter, even took the exam. The loafworth of breadcrumbs left in the post seems awfully suspicious. Unless burner is immeasurably stupid, it feels as though the post was designed to put a target on someone else.
In any event, the bar examiners are looking into it.
