For the first time in years, patrons stood perusing racks of books at the Hunt Branch Library in Fullerton.
Along with hosting library services, the location will also offer community services and be available for rental.
The 60-year-old Hunt Library is recognized as a local landmark and is on the National Registry of Historic Places; it was designed by architect William Pereira, known for, among others, the Transamerica Pyramid in San Francisco and the Chet Holifield Federal Building in Laguna Niguel.
The branch was built with a $500,000 gift from the Hunt Foods and Industries Foundation.
City officials studied several possible uses for the building following the branch closure and got more than $4 million in state funds to help bring it back to life.
