NEW YORK — A state trooper has died as a result of cancer caused by toxins at the World Trade Center collapse site, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.
Trooper Robert M. Burney was assigned to search and recovery after the attacks, according to the page. He died on Dec. 9, 2023, at 57 years old.
Burney had served with the New York State Police for 27 years, according to the report. He was survived by his mother, two brothers, a sister, a longtime companion and four nephews.
