(FOX40.COM) — A kayaker who was recently in critical condition after being rescued from the Sacramento River died on Tuesday, according to the Sacramento City Fire Department.

Around 9:15 a.m. on Feb. 1, an employee at a nearby marina reportedly saw a 50-year-old man in the water near the junction of the Sacramento and American rivers. The fire department said the employee called 911, attempted the throw the man a life ring, and used a pontoon boat to stop the man’s body from floating downstream.
The man was recovered by first responders and taken to the hospital in critical condition. Officials said he was pronounced dead on Tuesday.
