It’s been a minute since we’ve checked in with MAGA political operatives/criminals Jacob Wohl and Jack Burkman. Back in 2022, Wohl and Burkman pleaded guilty to telecommunications fraud. What that meant was a scheme of robocalls chock full of misinformation designed to depress voter turnout in predominantly Black neighborhoods during the 2020 election.
One of the robocalls was designed to convince people not to use mail-in voting:
“Mail-in voting sounds great,” according to a robocall. “But did you know that if you vote by mail, your personal information will be part of a public database that will be used by police departments to track down old warrants, and be used by credit card companies to collect outstanding debt? The CDC is even pushing to give preference for mail-in voting to track people for mandatory vaccines.”
The pair have been dealing with the consequences since then. They each got two years of probation, fined $2,500, and 500 hours of community service work. Plus the Federal Communications Commissions fined them $5.1 million. But for Burkman, an attorney, it looks like there’s more in the offing.
As reported by Reuters, it looks like Burkman will be losing his law license:
The D.C. Board on Professional Responsibility said Tuesday that Burkman earlier this month consented to disbarment. It recommended the sanction to the D.C. Court of Appeals, which has final say on disciplinary measures.
Which makes sense — this guy isn’t exactly a credit to the profession.
