On Tuesday, January 16, 2024, the northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway in Sun Valley, CA were severely congested due to an accident involving an overturned big rig. The accident, which caused the truck to overturn, occurred early in the morning and led to a significant backup of traffic.
Accident Location
This event took place on the interstate just south of Lankershim Boulevard, as reported around 4 a.m. by the California Highway Patrol. In response to the situation, the CHP issued a SigAlert, resulting in the closure of all lanes while the cleanup of debris was underway.
Aerial footage from AIR7 HD showed a considerable line of traffic stretching back to Hollywood Way. As of now, it is not known if there were any injuries.
Efforts to alleviate the traffic situation saw the reopening of two northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway by 6 a.m. However, further details regarding the incident have not been disclosed. (source)
