Alina Habba is having a rough go of it in Judge Kaplan’s courtroom. She’s earned a rebuke for forgetting to stand up, failed to premark exhibits, gotten a lecture on basic Evidence rules, and tried to chastise the judge… which went over about as well as you’d expect.
Apparently, faking being smart isn’t working out for her.
Law schools notoriously struggle to create “practice ready” lawyers. While some institutions offer top-notch clinical experiences, there’s no easy way to immerse students in practice when every few hours they need to close up shop on that draft memo to read 50 pages of commentary for their doctrinal Law of Basketweaving course.
And today’s students can’t expect the same on-the-job training lawyers received in the past. Hybrid work models allow attorneys to thrive in all sorts of ways, but when senior attorneys aren’t in the office, opportunities for “soft learning” decrease. Firms will need to get creative in building the future of legal training.
Current law students have an opportunity to get the sort of intensive trial and appellate advocacy training that law schools can’t provide. MoloLamken is currently accepting applications from current 2Ls to participate in the MoloLamken Advocacy Academy.
Instructors: Our faculty will be led by our partners—including Steven Molo and Jeffrey Lamken—who collectively have tried hundreds of cases, argued hundreds of appeals, and are engaged in some of the most important litigation in the country today.
The elite litigation boutique will provide 12 rising 3Ls with a week of training from Sunday, August 11 through Friday, August 16 — specifically chosen to avoid conflicting with summer associate programs. Reasonable travel and accommodations provided for those outside New York.
And participating students will receive a $4500 cash award too.
