— Damian Williams, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, in comments given on the courthouse steps following Sam Bankman-Fried’s conviction on money laundering and fraud charges. In a recent profile in New York Magazine, Williams reaffirmed his beliefs, stating, “There should not be two standards of justice in this country, one for blue-collar crime and one for white-collar crime. I have always bristled at the expectation that white-collar criminals should get white-glove treatment.” Williams is the first Black U.S. Attorney in the Southern District, which has existed for 232 years.
