According to the Metropolitan Police Department, there is a disturbing trend occurring in the Las Vegas valley. Since the beginning of 2023, there have been an overwhelming 3,400 hit-and-run incidents in the Las Vegas valley alone. While the year hasn’t even wrapped up yet, that’s still a 7% increase in the number of hit-and-run accidents reported last year.
Unfortunately, another hit and run happened recently on Warm Springs Road and Shadow Crest Drive that left a woman with critical injuries.
Police say the driver, Ryan Nimmo, was allegedly driving down the road on a Sunday when he ran a red light. That’s when he struck the victim’s vehicle. Rather than immediately pulling over and checking on the victim, Nimmo allegedly attempted to drive off. His attempt to flee was short-lived, though, because he reportedly crashed his car again a short distance away. He ran away on foot.
Reports show that the perpetrator, Nimmo, worked as a firefighter with the Las Vegas Fire Department prior to this accident. Authorities also suspect he was drinking at the time of the crash.
Between 2018 and 2020, police in Vegas reported an average of 3,000 hit-and-run cases every year. Since 2021, however, there have been an average of around 4,000 hit-and-runs a year. So far this year, at least 14 pedestrians in Clark County have been fatally hit by vehicles that fled the scene.
