BRUNSWICK, Ga. — An officer trainee for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection died earlier this month after suffering a medical emergency during training, reported the Officer Down Memorial Page.
Cody Olafson, 26, was completing a 1.5-mile run at the CBP’s academy in Georgia when he collapsed, according to a Facebook post from Roseau Community Church. The post, which appears to have been written by Olafson’s family, says Olafson suffered sun stroke and had a seizure. Medical personnel determined his internal body temperature was 105 degrees, the post said. Olafson died on May 20 despite lifesaving efforts.
Olafson began his CBP training in February and was assigned to a post in Pembina, North Dakota, according to CBP Commissioner Chris Magnus. He is survived by his mother and sister.
