ASHTABULA, COUNTY Ohio — Police are told there’s no such thing as a routine traffic stop. That was certainly the case last weekend for one small-town cop who pulled over a horse and buggy in Amish country.
In bodycam video obtained by WTRF, Deputy Mike Talbert is heard yelling at the buggy driver to stop. But there was a problem.
“We got a drunk Amish guy passed out in a buggy,” Talbert says on his radio. “There is a Bud Light can sitting in there and he’s passed cleaned out.”
Talbert is unable to wake the driver as the horse continues trotting with the buggy in tow. Talbert gets back in his cruiser and pulls in front of the horse.
“I have it stopped. Nope, disregard, he just rammed it into my car,” Talbert says as the horse and buggy knocks into the cruiser.
The buggy driver finally wakes up and Talbert orders him to get control of the horse, video shows. The driver suffered a minor injury and was charged with operating under the influence, according to the report. The horse and deputy were unharmed.
