Maine police recently confronted and arrested a man attempting to hide by covering himself with a sheet in an absurd ghost disguise.
According to a Facebook post by the Belfast Police Department, police responded to calls from the Admiral’s Ocean Inn property about an intoxicated man causing a disturbance.
When they arrived at the hotel around 12:40 a.m., police quickly discovered the man sitting outside the hotel draped in a sheet like a ghost. Police posted a photo of the “apparition” on their Facebook page.
“Here at Belfast Police Department, we have seen some crafty ways of hiding from the police. This unfortunately is not one of them,” the department joked.
Police say the 53-year-old man under the blanket was removed from the property three hours before and was warned not to come back, but he did.
“Around 12:40 a.m, Sgt. Cook was checking the parking lot and found someone in a chair hiding under a blanket. Sgt. Cook pulled the blanket off and found (the man) hiding under it. He was promptly arrested for criminal trespass and violation of bail conditions,” police wrote.
In the following days, the post attracted more than 1,300 reactions and comments, including Ghostbusterspuns and jokes about the Belfast “ghost chair.” One commenter questioned whether the story was from an episode of the cartoon Scooby-Doo.
“Wait is this an episode of Scooby-Doo?,” Crystal MacGown joked.
“Someone take this person back to kindergarten and teach them how to play hide and seek,” another wrote.
“The Not-so-Invisible Man,” another added.
