Acceptance emails were accidentally sent to 205 applicants to the Northeastern University School of Law because of a technical error.
The emails were also sent to 3,930 applicants from last year, some of whom already attend the law school, according to a statement from the university in Boston.
An applicant was interviewed by NBC Boston. Lakisha Papoutsakis told the station that she shared the news with loved ones, and six hours later, she got the follow-up email.
“I was like, ‘Oh, my God, this is so amazing,’ and then it was like ,’Oh no, sorry, April Fool’s Day,’” she said.
According to a statement from the the university, a communication explaining the error was sent shortly after the acceptance emails, and individual outreach with applicants is taking place.
“The school of law deeply regrets this unintended mistake and is taking steps to ensure that it will not happen in the future,” according to the statement.
